-MUGEN-
A lot of attention has died from this blog when I announced Yuna from FFX. Since that apparently got a lot of people to stop tuning in, I decided it was a perfect opportunity to instead work on my secret project. It includes a character I know you'll absolutely love, and some of you have definitely been waiting for. She currently sits at 40% complete! I wanted to announce her like 8 times already. But I held back after the discouragement of other Mugen developers I'm friends with. So we'll keep her a secret for now.
There's a lot of pleasure working on this character. Even though her design is relatively simple, it's still iconic. Whenever I start on a character, I have this pattern of walking away for a while once I get it between 12% to 25% done. Because life for some reason tends to happen around that time, but I return to it months later with a fresh mind. Yet once it reaches 33% complete, I know I'm officially locked in. When a character reaches 33%, that's when the basic movement animations are done, along with half the damaged sprites.
-Chat Stars-
For those who don't know what Chat Stars is, everyone that talks in the chat, has a default avatar on the screen, and whatever message you type in chat will also scroll out on the screen like a typewriter effect, like old school rpg games. But in September, I gave it a pretty sweet upgrade that I'll continue to polish out. Anyone can now unlock and evolve their own avatar by activating it with a channel point redemption!
Once you activate it, if you haven't already you'll need to describe to me who or what you want your avatar to be (preferably in private), and I'll show you what it looks like before you sign off on how it looks. Once you approve, I'll make and animate it, and after a few days, you just type the command, !ascend, in chat! The point cost for the redemption is a whopping 15k. That's about 2 months of watching me regularly. But I make free HD mugen fighters for your asses for free so, don't complain lol.
This feature is not only a gesture of my appreciation to those who support me, but something that feels really rewarding to earn. Your time matters, and I want the time you invest into me to matter and be repaid. Watching someone's avatar evolve feels like an initiation or ceremony for joining our circle of friends. The animation for the default avatar evolution looks and sounds really cool, and everyone loves to witness the reveals. I will continue to update and release more content, features and rewards for Chat Stars. If you want to join the channel, you can do so here https://www.twitch.tv/pulloffprime
Lastly for September, I established stats for each avatar. Right now they don't do anything since you can't level up or use items or get rewarded for the battle mode, but we're getting there. In fact, building the level up system is the next step. Enemies getting turns will actually be the last thing built, I can already tell, because it'll make testing the other rpg elements much faster, skipping all those extra enemy turns just to work on the loot portion of a fight for example.
-October Plans-
For Mugen, my goal is getting the current mystery Mugen fighter I'm developing up to 45% done. It's a smaller growth spirt because the next animations I need to make are the intro and victory animations. If there's time I'll also knock out the taunt animation. On Twitch, I'm streaming a blind playthrough of both Salt & Sanctuary and The Last Of Us Part 1. For my app, Chat Stars, I'll continue developing the battle mode. I need to get player and enemy stats in there already.
Video tutorials are still a bit ways off. But I haven't forgotten them. It all comes down to how much time I have to develop things. I have multiple projects (as you can gather) and I need to distribute the time between them that work, commuting to work, my second job of streaming, sleep and that extra hour I give myself after I get home to relax, don't already claim. Video tutorials take a huge chunk of time to make, and the amount of them I'll make is indefinite. I haven't even gotten started on editing my Twitch playthroughs for Youtube yet.
If I still have time, I need to make some emotes for a couple friends. I eventually plan to start my own emote making business. It's not something I've considered before, but people keep asking me to make emotes for them, and someone called me their favorite emote maker haha.
